Description

The III. Medical Clinic at the medical center of the university Hamburg/Eppendorf is international and national wide well known for its large service for patients with rare and common kidney diseases. Both multidisciplinary teams offer a full medical services for patients of all ages (including a successful transition clinic in cooperation pediatric nephrology center). The section of translational Immunology has a special clinical focus on immunological mediated glomerulopathies.

In Hamburg we can provide the full spectrum of acute renal replacement therapies from neonatal to geriatic age with more than 5000 treatments per year. Thanks to its high reputation our center already receives a large number of international patients for diagnostic asssessment and stae of the art therapies. Administrative and clinical pathways for international patients are already well established and can be readily utilized to extend cross-border healthcare within the Network. The clinical service is complemented by a wide range of research activities, which include genetic and experimental research in dedicated laboratories as well as the coordination of national and international clinical research consortia. The Hamburg group leads patient registries and participates in numerous investigator and industry sponsored clinical trials.

There is a long-standing tradition of close cooperation with patient support groups as well as involvement in all major national, European and international societies including participation and for some of the above topics lead in the development of numerous national and international guidelines.

The III. Medical Clinic (Nephrology and Rheumatology) is an essential part of the Center of Internal Medicine at the UKE. The clinical facilities comprise three wards including the kidney transplantaion unit (total 50 beds), a daily outpatient clinic with about 2,000 patients contacts per year, and dialysis unit delivering moren than 8,000 dialysis per year.
