Description |
The Department of Nephrology, Rigshospitalet, University of Copenhagen is the major nephrological center in the Copenhagen area and also a tertiary referral center. We cover all aspects of kidney disease, diagnostic tools, treatments and educational demands of the staff. We perform all kinds of dialysis, plasma exchange and kidney transplantation in collaboration with the urologists as well as kidney/pancreas transplantations. We are working at the highest specialized level in clinic and research with acute glomerulonephritis which includes ANCA associated vasculitis and are hosting Danish National AAV regsitry and biobank. We manage all other acute cases of glomerulonephritis and Thrombotic Microangiopathic Glomerulopathies. We treat Cystic Kidney Diseases, among these 450 Adult Dominant Polycystic Disease patients (ADPKD) as well as a smaller number of all other variants of cystic kidney diseases and ciliopathies. We treat Lupus nephritis and have a multidisciplinary approach to pregnancy in these patients. We perform about 100 kidney transplantations per year including 4-5 kidney transplantations in children in close collaboration with our urologists, pathologists, pediatrists and many other departments at Rigshospitalet. We focus on Post-Transplant Diabetes Mellitus in solid organ transplantation. We are the centre treating nephrological aspects of patiens with Fabry disease and is the national Fabry disease center in Denmark under the lead of the department of Endocrinology. The clinical service is complemented by a wide range of research activities, which include clinical and experimental research in a dedicated laboratory as well as participation in national and international clinical research consortia. The staff members in our units are involved in numerous investigator and industry driven clinical trials. | ||||||
