Prof. Dr. Guy Bogaert (MD, PhD) is working as a pediatric urologist in the University hospitals (UZ Leuven), and as a teacher and researcher at the KULeuven, in Leuven, Belgium since 1997-today.  After his medical school at the University in Brussels (VUB), he went to Wuppertal, Germany where the (worldwide) third Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy machine was installed.  After his formal training as a urologist, and inspired by professor Joachim Thüroff he then went to join professor Barry Kogan at University of California San Francisco (UCSF) where he worked as a clinical fellow and performed research on partial subvesical obstruction in the fetal lamb (1991-1994).  He achieved his PhD at the Albert Ludwig University in Freiburg.

In addition, he is the medical manager of the outpatient surgery center of the UZ Leuven and member of the steering committee of quality control in the hospital.  He is active in developing medical simulation models and training for the KULeuven.

He is an active member of the exam committee of the European Board of Urology, as well as the European Board of Pediatric Urology.  He is an active member of the EAU-ESPU guidelines committee for pediatric urology.

He has published more then 40 articles in peer reviewed journals and several chapters in books.

He is assisting several medical students performing master studies, investigating research on the sleep pathophysiology in nocturnal enuresis, long term results of pyeloplasty in low function hydronephrosis, megaureter, ascending testis and fertility.
