Description

The Clinical Nephrology division offers a comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic approach for all glomerular, tubular, and vascular diseases of the kidney, in adults and children, taking advantage not only from the expertise of the staff components of the Division but also from those of the other departments of the Consortium. Patients receive assistance from the diagnostic phase to long term follow up, and are eventually offered all options for target treatments and renal replacement therapy. Activities that are worth mentioning are the following:
Renal Pathology; Clinical Pathology; Diagnostic Imaging; Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory. The Nephrology Division provides acute and chronic dialysis and other blood purification methods (plasma exchange, immunabsorption) are available. The Division is actively involved in clinical studies and trials, in the field of Nephrology, with a strong attitude toward development of independent, academic studies to respond to real health needs.
The Division has a vocation to research that develop in collaboration with the IDIBAPS Institude and the Clinic Fundation

The main areas of research of the Renal Division that are relevant to the Network are the following:

Clinical evaluation of biomarkers and newer immunotherapeutics in immune-mediated renal disease.
Digital pathology applications for monitoring fibrosis and activity in immune-mediated renal disease.
Co-ordination of international clinical research and multi-centre randomised controlled trials. Development of clinical trial methodology, management guidelines and implementation of best clinical practice in clinical nephrology.
Support of genetic, gene expression and proteomic biomarker studies in primary and secondary glomerular diseases.
