The center of rare kidney diseases and thrombotic microangiopathies (TMA) is the largest referral center for rare kidney diseases in adult population in Lithuania with an encatchment of 1.5-2 million population and more than 10000 outpatient contacts and 1300 hospitalizations, 200 kidney biopsies performes per year. The center is within the structure of Nephrology center, which has additional two departments: department of Nephrology and Kidney Transplantation and department of Dialysis. The department of Dialysis consists of 18 beds. Haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis services are provided for the in-patients and out-patients. There are about 10300 yearly hemodialysis performed. In addition, there is a possibility to apply for plasma exchange therapy at our center. There are about 25-30 peritoneal dialysis patients and more than 400 consultations per year. Our multidisciplinary team has a special interest in the adult patients' with suspected rare kidney diseases and TMA screening, diagnosing, treating and monitoring. We apply genetic testing widely at our hospital laboratory and internationally. Doctors nephrologists, geneticists, advise our patients after a diagnosis of a rare kidney disease, form a further plan for testing and monitoring. The most adult cases of Fabry disease in Lithuania are attached to our center. In addition to Fabry disease and TMA, our other special ineterest and the field of expertise are the adult patients with Alport syndrome, tuberous sclerosis, rare tubulopathies. Our Center is involved in several international clinical trials related to Fabry disease, TMA, aHUS and Alport syndrome. | ||||||||||||||||||||
