Dr. Burgmaier completed her training in general pediatrics and pediatric nephrology at the tertiary center of the Department of Pediatrics, University Hospital of Cologne.
Her special clinical interests encompass all forms of polycystic kidney disease, haemolytic uremic syndrome, PSH nephritis and peritoneal dialysis in preterm infants.
Her scientific focus is on clinical research regarding autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease; since 2013, she is co-organizing the structural and scientific topics of the international ARPKD registry study ARegPKD, together with Max Liebau, who initiated the study in 2012 with the support and as a joint venture of the German Society of Pediatric Nephrology (GPN) and the ESCAPE Clinical Research Network. On the basis of the large international cohort of clinically well characterized ARPKD patients, the primary goal of this ERKNet-associated initiative is to identify protective and risk factors for the renal and hepatic phenotype in order to set a basis for the evaluation of potential causative treatment options for patients with ARPKD.
