Dr. Tanja Kersnik Levart is a Full Professor of Pediatrics, Consultant and Head of the Department of Nephrology, Pediatric Clinic, University Medical Centre Ljubljana. She received her M.D. in 1995 at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana. In 2004 she finished a residency program in Pediatrics and graduated cum laude. In the same year, she received her Doctor of Science degree for a study entitled Sensitivity of ultrasound in detecting renal parenchymal defects in children. Dr. Kersnik Levart received a degree in urinary tract ultrasound and performed clinical scholarships at the Renal Unit in Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, London, United Kingdom, and at the Department of Pediatric Nephrology in Children’s University Hospital Zagreb. She is committed to educating young doctors and has mentored four Ph.D. students since 2013. Dr. Kersnik Levart was the president of the 54th Annual Meeting of the European Society of Pediatric Nephrology, which took place in Ljubljana, Slovenia in June 2022. She is a member of the International Pediatric Nephrology Association, European Society for Pediatric Nephrology, Slovenian Society of Nephrology, Slovenian Society of Pediatrics, Slovenian Medical Chamber, Slovenian trade union of medical and dental doctors FIDES and Slovenian Working group for kidney stones. Thanks to her efforts, the Pediatric Nephrology Division at Children’s Hospital, University Medical Centre Ljubljana is a full partner in ERKNet since January 2022.
Her research interests include genetic basis of hereditary kidney diseases, glomerulopathies, thrombotic microangiopathies, metabolic nephropathies, tubulopaties and renal and urinary tract malformations. Dr. Kersnik Levart’s publication record encompasses 74 scientific articles and book chapters. With 629 citations to date, her current H-index is 11.
