Project Title:

FEMALE_PKD: abordando la poliquistosis renal autosómica dominante desde una perspectiva de género

Project Type:

Observational Study, Enrolment not yet started
Adjunct biobank: DNA, Plasma

Disease group(s):

AD structural kidney disorders

Project Summary:

Primary objective; To increase knowledge about pregnancy, reproductive options, and the effects of hormone treatment in women with ADPKD. Secondary: 1. To assess the knowledge of people with ADPKD and health professionals about reproductive options. 2. To study the cohort of patients seeking PGD for ADPKD, the reasons for not undergoing PGD, complications during PGD and the success of the technique. 3. To determine liver volume in women undergoing hormone therapy to assess liver growth, the risk of liver complications and to identify individual risk predictors. 4. To determine the effect of childbirth/cesarean section on intracranial aneurysm rupture in women with ADPKD. 5. To determine the degree of placental dysfunction and its complications in pregnant women with ADPKD. Methods: 1) Surveys of nephrologists and patients with ADPKD to assess knowledge of reproductive options. 2) Review of first visits of women with ADPKD for PGD to assess decisions, treatments, outcomes, and complications. 3 and 4) Collection of clinical, analytical, genetic, treatment and radiological data (total kidney volume, liver volume, presence of intracranial aneurysms) in relation to hormonal treatments and pregnancy (n=150). 5) Prospective study of placental dysfunction (n=15), including estimated fetal weight and uterine artery Doppler. Blood samples will be taken in the 1st and 3rd trimester to determine circulating angiogenic factors for early detection of pre-eclampsia in ADPKD.
