ERKNet Postgraduate Curriculum
The ERKNet Postgraduate Curriculum is a structured 3-year online programme consisting of webinars and case-based eLearning covering the whole spectrum of rare kidney diseases. The webinars are presented twice a month by outstanding paediatric or adult nephrologists, nephropathologists and geneticists. Additionally, we offer eLearning cases that present scenarios of patients with rare kidney diseases, allowing the students to establish a diagnosis and choose appropriate therapeutic strategies.
The training programme targets postgraduate physicians who wish to become certified European experts in rare kidney diseases. Physicians who successfully complete the three-year educational programme and demonstrate sufficient clinical activity in the field are awarded a Certificate as “Rare Kidney Disease Specialist.”
Since its launch in 2021, five cohorts have started, enrolling a total of 474 students from 71 healthcare providers in 21 European countries. Each year a new class starts, ensuring continuous intake and broad coverage across the ERKNet community.
While the eLearning content is reserved for curriculum students, the ERKNet webinars are freely accessible worldwide. To date, ERKNet has delivered more than 120 webinars, attracting participants from an average of 47 countries across all continents and reaching a cumulative audience of over 13,000 attendees.
Eligibility criteria:
- Employee of an ERKNet Member of Affiliated Partner centre, or at a centre currently applying for ERKNet membership
- Postgraduate trainee in internal medicine/pediatrics, or
- Postgraduate trainee in nephrology or pediatric nephrology, or
- Nephrologist or pediatric nephrologist, or geneticist
Certificate qualifying criteria:
- Attendance to 48 ERKNet Webinars within a three year period
- >75% correct answers in Webinar-related questions
- Processing of 30 eLearning cases
- > 75% correctly answered case questions
- Submitted portfolio confirming 2 years clinical activity in the field of rare kidney diseases

Unfortunately, only employees from ERKNet Member or Affiliated Partner centres can participate.
Unfortunately, the 2nd call for membership ended in November 2019. So far, no third round of application for ERKNet membership is planned.

No, the curriculum is for ERKNet affiliated members free of charge.
There are 2 possibilities:
- Live: You can find our webinar schedule and registration links here. If you attend the webinar live, it will automatically appear in your performance overview (usually 1-2 days later). Important: Please register with the email address that you have provided to us.
- Recorded: If you are unable to attend the webinar live or would like to watch it again, the webinar recordings are linked on your Student Performance Summary for streaming. For technical reasons you must watch it via the link of your student’s page. If you watch the recordings via the GoToWebinar link, this can’t be detected by our system.
