After graduating in Medicine magna cum laude in 2000, and completing his Nephrology Residency in 2005, both at the University of Parma, Dr Vaglio was post-doctoral fellow at the Emory University (Atlanta, USA) in 2005-2006 and in 2009 obtained a PhD in Nephrology at the University of Parma. He worked as a Nephrology Consultant at Parma University Hospital in 2010-2018, and in 2018 was appointed Associate Professor of Nephrology at the University of Firenze. Dr Vaglio’s research activity has focused on systemic autoimmune diseases, namely systemic vasculitis (particularly ANCA-associated vasculitis including Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis), fibro-inflammatory disorders (retroperitoneal fibrosis and IgG4-related disease), systemic lupus erythematosus and other rare disorders such as Erdheim-Chester disease. He published so far 169 articles in international, peer-reviewed journals; his h-index is 40. He is part of the scientific council of the European Vasculitis Society (EUVAS) and of the European Vasculitis Genetics Consortium (EVGC), and member of the main international committees that produced the guidelines/recommendations for the diagnosis and management of the aforementioned disorders. His research was funded by the European Community, the Ministry of University and Research, AIFA, and other agencies (total funds 1.1 M euros). He is Associate Editor of Internal and Emergency Medicine. He was invited speaker at >30 international meetings.
