Dr. Jakub Zieg is Consultant Paediatric Nephrologist and the Clinical Lead of Paediatric Nephrology team at University Motol Hospital. He currently chairs the paediatric renal transplantation programme in the Czech Republic.Dr. Zieg graduated from Charles University, The 3rd Medical Faculty, and received his clinical training in Paediatrics and Paediatric Nephrology at University Hospital Motol in Prague. He continued his professional career with clinical fellowships in paediatric nephrology at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London and Children´s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa.
Dr. Zieg received his PhD in Human Physiology and Pathophysiology in 2014 and he then completed his habilitation at Charles University in 2019.
Dr. Zieg´s main clinical and research interests have been in clinical nephrology with the main focus on nephrotic syndrome, glomerular diseases, haemolytic uraemic syndrome, urinary tract infections, electrolyte and water metabolism. His recent research activities revolve around identification of risk factors and management of chronic kidney disease in children.
He also maintains a keen interest in teaching, and is involved in university teaching programmes.
Dr. Zieg serves on the editorial board of the journal Frontiers in Paediatrics. He has authored and co-authored numerous scientific publications, academic articles and book chapters. He is one of the main editors of the textbook „Pediatric Nephrology Handbook“, published in 2019 in the Czech Republic.
