Description |
Established in 1983, the Pediatric Nephrology Division of Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Porto is one of the largest facilities in Portugal for the treatment of children with kidney diseases, and a National Pediatric Kidney Transplant Referral Centre since 2016. The Pediatric Dialysis Unit ensures dialysis techniques to chronic patients and offers support to newborns and children with acute kidney injury or metabolic diseases, providing a full range of acute dialysis techniques, including acute peritoneal dialysis, and continuous renal replacement therapies in critically ill patients. It is also possible to perform plasmapheresis techniques, whenever indicated. Multi-disciplinary care is provided by pediatric nephrologists, dietician, specialized nurses, psychologist, social worker and genetician for children of all ages with complex rare kidney pathologies, including a prenatal consultation clinic. The Rare Kidney Diseases Clinic includes multi-disciplinary teams to diagnosis approach and optimal care for patients with rare kidney diseases and together with the Adult Nephrology Department offers lifelong follow-up and treatment for patients with rare hereditary nephropathies. |
