Description

The Nephrology, Dialysis and Transplantation Unit of ASST Spedali Civili of Brescia offers a comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic approach for glomerular, tubular, and vascular kidney diseases. The unit includes a ward with 30 beds for the management of acute diseases, a transplant service that performs around 80 kidney transplant per year, a haemodialysis service managing around 350 patients and a peritoneal dialysis service managing around 90 patients. The center includes a Nephro-Immunological Clinic that manage around 1000 patients affected by glomerulonephritis, systemic lupus erythematosus and vasculitis as well as a Genetic Clinic that follows around 1200 patients affected by several genetic diseases including polycystic kidney disease, autosomal dominant tubulointerstitial kidney disease, Alport syndrome, tuberous sclerosis complex, apoA1 amyloidosis and Fabry disease. The unit performs around 150-200 kidney biopsy per year.
Since several years the Nephrology Unit of the ASST Spedali Civili of Brescia is part of the Lombardy’s regional network for rare diseases being referral center for several of them. The center benefits from several multidisciplinary collaborations in this field ranging from immunophenotyping specialists to specialists in medical and molecular genetics. The center is also able to provide to patients and families psychological support and social assistance throughout a dedicated hospital service.
The Nephrology Unit of the ASST Spedali Civili of Brescia is committed in several spontaneous and sponsored research projects.
