Description |
The Pediatric Nephrology and Dialysis Unit provides care for pediatric patients affected by kidney diseases, including rare renal diseases, for a total of more than 1800 inpatients and 2000 outpatients per year. It is composed of a multidisciplinary team that includes consultants in nephrology and pediatrics, specialized nurses and biologists, offering full medical and psychosocial services for children of all ages, as well as a prenatal consultation clinic. Additionally, the staff guarantees the expertise of numerous specialists, such as pediatric radiologists, urologists and geneticians. Of note, patients affected by nephrourologic disorders are followed through an integrated healthcare pathway, jointly evaluated by both the nephrologist and the urologist, and directed to surgical or medical treatment. Our tight collaboration with the Genetic Unit of the hospital, allows us to provide patients with the most advanced genetic screenings (target resequencing, whole-exome sequencing). This expertise allows us to rapidly and efficiently obtain molecular diagnosis for almost all rare renal diseases, that are critical in solving clinical issues. The clinical service is complemented by a wide range of both clinical and basic research activities, which include genetic and experimental research in a dedicated laboratory | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
