Description |
The Department of Pediatric Nephrology of University Hospitals Leuven is the reference centre for children's rare kidney diseases in Belgium with an catchment of 5 million population and more than 2500 outpatient contacts and 500 hospitalizations per year. We provide the full spectrum of acute and chronic renal replacement therapies from neonatal to adolescent age. Our multi-disciplinary clinics provide care by pediatric nephrologists, dietician, specialized nurses, psychologist, social worker and genetician for children of all ages with complex rare kidney pathologies , including a prenatal consultation clinic and a transition clinic. The clinical service is complemented by a specialized Pediatric nephrology Laboratory within the department of Development and Regeneration of the University of Leuven. The specific research focuses of the group is studying mechanisms and novel treatments for genetic renal diseases including cystinosis, and ADPKD in human cell and animal models. The group participated in different European Research projects and provided PhD and post-doctoral training for students coming from all continents. |
