For more than a decade the HCB and HSJD have been a functional Unit composed of two university hospitals of the highest European level with all the diagnostic and therapeutic services and platforms necessary to care for adult and child patients with primary renal pathology (including hereditary diseases) and secondary according to quality standards and therapeutic guidelines in Clinical Nephrology, dialysis and Renal Transplantation.
The activity and degree of specialisation at HSJD1,makes it one of the most important hospitals in Europe that treats mothers,children and young people;each year,the Hospital records more than 25,000 hospital admissions and major outpatient operations,about 238,000 outpatient visits and 122,000 emergency-room cases.We believe that the best way to care patients is to make the family part of the cure by incorporating methods to minimise pain,reduce emotional impact and improve the experience of hospitalisation.Furthermore,we rely on non-health professionals who are specially trained to work in hospital Settings(500 volunteers).An individualized plan is made in the transition from the field of paediatrics to adults.
We are the reference center in pathologies of high complexity as patients with Rare Diseases (RD).In addition,our centre and has been accredited as a reference centre for RD at diﬀerent levels:(A)Regional:8 Catalan RD’s network2 designations,including the nephrology area;(B)National:29 CSUR3 accreditations (Glomerulopathies, kidney transplant and severe kidney disease and dialysis in progress),(C)International:21 ERNs;including the kidney transplant programm in Transplantchild and urologic diesases in eUROGEN.All the pathologies included in these acreditations require high specialization and a multidisciplinary team.HSJD has an Institute for Rare Childhood Disorders with advanced diagnostic tools and we are a leading national centre on RD’s research.Furthermore,we have a Clinical Assay Unit that provides paediatricians the chance to develop and take part in clinical trials.Our center is a hospital committed to research and teaching.RD products of interest, like Rare Commons4 and Share For Rare5.
