The closest major airport to Lyon is Lyon Saint-Exupéry, located about 25 km from the city. From the airport, several convenient options can bring you to Leuven.

The fastest way to reach Lyon from the Airport is by train via the Rhône Express. Direct trains run frequently - every 15 minutes until 21:00 and afterwards every 30 minutes until midnight. The journey takes only about 30 minutes.

  • Train Line: Take the Rhône Express directly to Lyon Part-Dieu (central station).
  • You can buy tickets through the Rhône Express website. We recommend scrolling down to “Packages” and booking the Return Trip and Lyon City Card.

Arriving by Train

Lyon is not only well-connected to France’s extensive rail network, making train travel a convenient option no matter where you’re coming from, but also has a highly efficient city-wide public transport network.

From Lyon Part-Dieu (central station) to the Hôtel Lyon Métropole via public transport:

There are two ways to reach the venue from the central station, each involving at least one transfer. The journey by public transport takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes.
For conveniency, consult the TCL website for departure times and timetables.

Option 1:

The first option involves two transfers — one at “Saxe-Gambetta” and another at “Bellecour.” Lyon’s metro system is highly efficient, with trains running every 3–5 minutes:

  • From Part-Dieu, take Metro Line B towards Saint-Genis-Laval Hôp. Sud and get off at Saxe-Gambetta (3rd stop)
  • Remain in the underground network and transfer to Metro Line D towards Gare de Vaise – G. Collomb, then get off at Bellecour (2nd stop)
  • Exit the metro and walk about 5 minutes across Place Bellecour to the “Bellecour St Exupéry” bus stop
  • From there, take Bus Line 40 towards Neuville and ride to the final stop, Lyon-Plage (11th stop). The venue is located directly at the bus stop - timetable for Bus Line 40
Option 2:

The second option involves only one transfer, though it may take slightly longer since the tram runs less frequently than the metro

  • Exit Part-Dieu central station and walk about 5 minutes to the Thiers–Lafayette tram stop
  • Take Tram Line 11 towards Gare Saint-Paul and get off at La Feuillée (6th stop) - Timetable for Line 11
  • From there, walk about one minute north along the street to the nearby bus stop, also named La Feuillée
  • Take Bus Line 40 towards Neuville and ride to the final stop, Lyon-Plage (9th stop). The venue is located directly at this stop - timetable for Bus Line 40

From Lyon Part-Dieu (central station) to the Hôtel Lyon Métropole via taxi:

If you prefer to take a taxi from the central station to the venue, the fare is approximately €30, with a travel time of around 20 minutes depending on traffic. Please note that taxi expenses cannot be reimbursed.
