Arriving by Train

Leuven is well-connected to Belgium’s extensive rail network, making train travel a convenient option no matter where you’re coming from.

From Brussels:

If you're already in Brussels, taking a train is the fastest option to get to Leuven. Intercity (IC) trains to Leuven depart from Brussels Central Station every 10-15 minutes, and the trip takes approximately 20 minutes.

• Train Lines: Look for IC trains towards Liège or Hasselt, which both stop in Leuven.
• Tickets can be purchased via the SNCB website or through the SNCB mobile app.

From Other Belgian Cities:

Leuven is easily accessible by train from other major cities as well:

• Antwerp: Direct trains take around 45 minutes.
• Ghent: Expect a travel time of 1 hour.
• Liège: Direct trains take around 35-40 minutes.

From Leuven Train Station to the Irish College:

Once you arrive at Leuven Train Station, you can either take a 15-20 minute walk or hop on a 5-minute bus ride to reach the Irish College.

Arriving by Car

Driving to Leuven is convenient thanks to its proximity to major motorways, but be mindful that parking in the city center can be limited.

Directions:

Leuven is accessible from various major cities in Belgium:

• From Brussels: Take the E40 motorway towards Leuven and follow the signs for Leuven Centrum.
• From Antwerp: Drive along the E19 towards Brussels, then switch to the E40 to Leuven.
• From Liège: Simply take the E40 directly to Leuven.

Parking:

There is limited on-site parking at the Irish College. If parking on-site isn’t available, you can use nearby public parking garages, such as Parking Heilig Hart or Parking Ladeuze, both located within walking distance.

Tips for Driving in Leuven:

• Low Emission Zone (LEZ): Leuven has implemented a Low Emission Zone (LEZ) in the city center. Be sure to check if your vehicle complies with the regulations. If necessary, you can register your car online.

Park and Ride Options:
