Giovambattista Capasso

Graduated in Medicine & Surgery at the University of Naples; he got the postgraduate specialization in Nephrology and Paediatrics. Currently, he is Full Professor of Nephrology at School of Medicine of the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”; Director of the Department of Translational Medical Sciences; Director of the PhD Program in Experimental, Clinical and Medical Sciences; and Head of the Clinical Department of Nephrology. Recently he has been appointed as Scientific Director of BioGem, an important Research Institute involved in Genetics and Translational Medicine.

He has completed his scientific and clinical education in Germany  (Max-Planck Institut für Biophysik, Frankfurt) and in USA  (Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York and Yale Medical School, New Haven). In these prestigious Institutes he had as mentor  outstanding scientists such as Karl Ullrich, Rolf Kinne and Gerhard Giebisch, and had the opportunity to interact with other prominent scientists and clinicians.

When returned to Naples, he established a laboratory of renal pathophysiology where he trained many Italian young scientists. He has published papers on renal acid-base and electrolytes regulation, hormonal control of renal function and mechanisms of drug nephrotoxicity. His main current scientific interest focuses on rare diseases, onco-nephrology and brain-kidney interaction.

He was member of the Editorial Board of Kidney Int and Am Journal of Physiol (Renal). He is Associate Editor of NDT and Journal of Nephrology; Chief Editor of Kidney and Blood Pressure Research. He has published 292  papers on peer review journals and 42 chapters on international text books. He has almost 10.000 citations, H-Index of 42 as per Google Scholar website.

He has been President of the Italian Society of Nephrology, Council Member of ERA-EDTA and SAB (Scientific Advisory Board). He has been appointed as Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the ERA-EDTA meeting to be held in Berlin (2021).
