Christina Melexopoulou

Dr. Christina Melexopoulou is a Consultant Nephrologist at the Clinic of Nephrology & Renal Transplantation of “Laiko” General Hospital in Athens. She received her M.D. from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Medical School in 2002 and earned her PhD in May 2020. Her dissertation, titled “The Effect of Kidney Transplantation from Living and Deceased Donors on Conventional and Novel Biomarkers of Cardiovascular Disease,” was conducted under the supervision of Professor J.N. Boletis.

Dr. Melexopoulou has extensive experience in clinical research, having contributed to numerous multicenter clinical trials. She has also been involved in experimental research on polycystic kidney disease (PKD) through rodent animal models.

With a special focus on rare diseases, Dr. Melexopoulou is an active member of the Hereditary Kidney Diseases Working Group of the Hellenic Society of Nephrology. She co-established the Outpatient Clinic for Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD) at “Laiko” General Hospital with Dr. Filiopoulos and has been instrumental in training other nephrologists in PKD management. In addition, she manages patients with nephrocalcinosis as she has aspecial interest in genetic disorders affecting kidney function.

Dr. Melexopoulou’s academic contributions include over 30 peer-reviewed publications, 90 oral and poster presentations, and 60 invited lectures. Her research impact is reflected in her H-index of 9.
