George Liapis

Dr. George Liapis is Consultant of Pathology, specialized in kidney biopsies. He is working at 1st Department of Pathology, Laiko General Hospital, Medical School, University of Athens, where he provides service regarding kidney biopsies, for Laiko Hospital, as well as for other Hospitals in Athens and all over Greece. He receives kidney biopsies from all over the country (>600 biopsies per year) and he collaborates with many Nephrology and Transplantation Departments, Centers and Universities (University of Athens, Laiko and Attiko Hospitals, University of Thessaloniki, University of Ioannina, University of Alexandroupoli, pediatric-kidney clinics included). 

He received his MD title in 2000, from University of Athens and afterwards, he was trained in Pathology, at 1st Department of Pathology, Medical School, University of Athens (2002-2007). He had an interest in kidney biopsies and he had an additional training in kidney biopsies at St’ Thomas’ Hospital, London, England, for three months (2006) and Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA, for 16 months (2008-2009), under the supervision of distinguished Professors Jennette Charles and Nickeleit Volker. 

His research interests include glomerulonephritis and kidney transplantation. He has a special interest in rare kidney diseases.

He is a member of Banff congress-meetings and he is participating in the Working group of Electron microscopy in Transplantation of Banff meetings. He is also a member of the ESOT team and of the European Society of Pathology.

Dr. Liapis publication records include more than 55 scientific articles and book chapters and more than 700 citations.
