Ron Gansevoort

Ron T. Gansevoort, prof of Medicine and nephrologist, working at the Department of Nephrology, University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), the Netherlands

Ron Gansevoort’s work in the field of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) has been instrumental in the development of the novel KDIGO definition and classification of CKD, the development of novel endpoints for trials in the field of Nephrology and the first registered treatment for ADPKD. He is committed to getting more attention for screening for early CKD and prevention of CKD progression on a general population level, and specifically for prevention of disease progression in ADPKD. At his institution he helped to establish the Polycystic Kidney Disease Expertise Center, that has been acknowledged by the Dutch and EU authorities.

Ron has co-authored over 700 peer reviewed manuscripts, that have been cited more than 40.000 time, resulting in an h-index of 92. He is/was member of the steering committee of several large scale consortia (CKD-Prognosis Consortium, DIPAK, ERACODA, RECOVAC, Check@Home) and clinical trials in the field of CKD (ARTS-DN, CONCORD, Renal Lifecycle) and ADPKD (TEMPO 3:4, REPRISE, DIPAK-1, STAGED-PKD, MANGROVE). He has been awarded with several prizes and awards, including  the US Kidney Foundation Distinguished International Medal, and acts as associate editor for 5 nephrological journals. At present he is member of the Council of the European Renal Association.
