He graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Valladolid in 1985 with Cum Laude distinction and obtained his PhD in Urology from the Complutense University of Madrid in 2000 (Cum Laude). He completed his Urology residency at Hospital 12 de Octubre, Madrid (1986–1990) and achieved EBU certification in 1992. Since 1993, he has been Head of the Prostate Pathology Unit at Hospital 12 de Octubre, where he has served as Head of the Urology Department since January 2019.

He is Associate Professor of Urology at the Complutense University of Madrid (since 2003) and has authored or co-authored more than 100 indexed publications, mainly in prostate cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia. He has been principal or co-investigator in over 50 phase II–IV clinical trials, particularly in advanced and castration-resistant prostate cancer. He served as Treasurer (2009–2013) and later Vice President (2013–2017) of the Spanish Association of Urology, and is an active member of both the Spanish Association of Urology and the European Urology Association.
