Elizabeth R. Viera Ramírez

Dr. Elizabeth R. Viera Ramírez is a nephrologist at Fundació Puigvert, where she works as an attending physician in the Hypertension and Renal Damage Prevention Unit. Since 2024, she has co-led the Cardio-Renal Unit, a joint initiative between Fundació Puigvert and Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, alongside Dr. Isabel Zegri. Her clinical focus is on the comprehensive management of cardio-renal syndrome and the diagnosis of hereditary kidney diseases.
She graduated in Medicine from the Central University of Venezuela (2014) and completed her nephrology residency at Hospital Ramón y Cajal in Madrid (2018–2022), where she received the “Outstanding Resident” award. Since joining Fundació Puigvert, she has been actively involved in the education of medical residents and postgraduate students. She is currently pursuing her PhD at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, focusing on the use of artificial intelligence and natural language processing (NLP) to support the diagnosis of rare kidney diseases.
In 2024, she was selected for the ERKNet Clinical Exchange Programme, completing a specialized clinical rotation in hereditary kidney diseases at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, one of Europe’s leading reference centers in nephrogenetics. This experience has further strengthened her expertise and leadership in the field.
Dr. Viera Ramírez is an active member of several national and international scientific societies and working groups, including CARESEN, RenHerCat, and EuReCa-M, reflecting her strong commitment to research, teaching, and collaborative networking in nephrology.
