Dr. Barbara Ruggiero is a consultant in Pediatric Nephrology at Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital, under the leadership of Professor Francesco Emma.
She graduated and specialized in Nephrology at Sapienza University of Rome in 2010 and completed a research fellowship at the Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research.
Since 2012, she has been part of the Aldo and Cele Daccò Center for Rare Diseases in Bergamo, led by Professor Giuseppe Remuzzi, as well as a member of the Local Ethics Committee of Seriate (Bergamo).
She has conducted several clinical trials on primary and secondary glomerular diseases, primarily diabetes-related and immune-mediated conditions, and has focused on translational research into the mechanisms of renal damage and nephroprotection. She also co-tutored the 5th Edition of the Scientific Writing Academy, supporting fellows in clinical research training.
Her current research interests are broadening to include renal and bone involvement in tubulopathies, hypophosphatemic rickets, nephrocalcinosis, and nephrolithiasis, including cystinuria and primary hyperoxaluria.
