Rachel Lennon is a Professor of Nephrology at the University of Manchester and a Consultant Paediatric Nephrologist at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, UK.

Rachel graduated from Nottingham University Medical School in 1994. She completed clinical training in paediatric nephrology and began her research training in 2004 with a Wellcome Research Training Fellowship to work in Peter Mathieson and Moin Saleem’s laboratory. She was then appointed to an NIHR Academic Clinical Lectureship in 2007 and in 2008 she began working in Martin Humphries’ laboratory at the Wellcome Centre for Cell-Matrix Research in Manchester. In 2010 she was awarded a Wellcome Trust Intermediate Clinical Fellowship to establish her research group. Rachel’s research is focused on understanding mechanisms of glomerular disease, the leading cause of chronic kidney disease in adults and children. In 2016 Rachel was awarded a Wellcome Senior Research Fellowship to focus on the molecular regulation of force in the kidney filter. Rachel combines her academic work with clinical duties as a Consultant Paediatric Nephrologist at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, where she has a special interest in glomerular disease and has established a clinic for families with Alport syndrome.
