Hugo Bakis

Dr. Hugo Bakis obtained his scientific baccalaureate in 2009 before entering medical studies at the University of Bordeaux, where he ranked 95th in the 2015 Épreuves Classantes Nationales and chose the DES in Nephrology. He pursued advanced university diplomas in systemic kidney diseases (2016), electrolyte disorders (2017), and extracorporeal purification techniques (2018), while also completing two Master’s degrees in Biomedical Research at the University of Bordeaux and a research fellowship at INSERM U1026 (BioTis) under the supervision of Professor Claire Rigothier. His doctoral thesis in Medicine (2020, with highest distinction) explored the role of mitochondrial diseases in adult nephropathies, and his DES research focused on vitamin D status, donor-specific antibodies, and kidney transplant outcomes.

His clinical training included a wide range of nephrology, dialysis, transplantation, and internal medicine rotations at CHU Bordeaux, Libourne, and Toulouse. From 2020 to 2023, he held successive roles as Assistant Specialist and Chef de Clinique in Nephrology and Renal Transplantation at CHU Bordeaux. Since November 2024, he has been serving as a Hospital Practitioner (Praticien Hospitalier Contractuel) in the Department of Nephrology, Dialysis, Transplantation, and Apheresis at CHU Bordeaux, after passing the National Hospital Practitioner Competition in 2025.

In parallel, Dr. Bakis has been involved in multiple institutional projects, including the development of digital traceability systems for multidisciplinary meetings, tools to support therapeutic decision-making in chronic kidney disease, and the implementation of connected prescription platforms. He also plays a role in the establishment of an Intensive Care Unit for Nephrology at CHU Bordeaux, scheduled to open in early 2025.
