Anna Taranta

Dr. Anna Taranta earned a Master’s degree in Biology from the University “La Sapienza” of Rome. She obtained a PhD in Physiopathology and Clinical Skeletal Apparatus from the University of Rome “La Sapienza”. She completed postdoctoral training at the University of Aberdeen with an EMBO fellowship, focusing on the genotype-phenotype relationship in osteopetrosis.

Currently, she is a staff scientist at Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital in Rome, with over two decades of research expertise in rare genetic renal diseases, particularly nephropathic cystinosis.

She has contributed to identifying the role of a new isoform of cystinosin, discovering new genetic mutations through RNA sequencing, and revealing an intrinsic defect in bone remodeling as a factor contributing to rickets in cystinosis. These contributions were made through funded projects where she served as principal or co-investigator. Dr. Taranta has proven expertise in multidisciplinary collaboration within both Italian and international biomedical research environments. She has also been a member of European scientific committees evaluating research projects on rare diseases.

Her scientific work includes over 49 peer-reviewed articles, with an h-index of 24. The complete list of her publications is available on the following link https://www.scopus.com/results/authorNamesList.uri?name=name&st1=Taranta&st2=Anna&origin=searchauthorlookup
