Martin Bezdícka

Martin Bezdícka, MSc is a graduate of Charles University, the Faculty of Science. He completed the programme Molecular and Cellular Biology, Genetics and Virology. Since his graduation in 2016, he has been employed in the Department of Paediatrics at Motol University Hospital in Prague.

Being a valuable member of the paediatric nephrology team his main expertise is genetic investigation of idiopathic nephrotic syndrome and atypical haemolytic uraemic syndrome in children. He also does the genetic routine testing of children with steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome (SRNS) by Sanger sequencing and next generation sequencing (NGS). He has analysed and evaluated the genetic findings from NGS data of the first largest Czech and Slovak paediatric cohort study with SRNS and atypical haemolytic uraemic syndrome in cooperation with other significant nephrology centres in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. In the last years, he has expanded his field of interest to functional studies of found genetic variants. His goal is to refine the diagnosis and contribute to the research of unclear genetic findings, which number is constantly growing.  His next ambition is to understand the pathogenesis of paediatric rare diseases. In this field he has become acquainted with methods in cell biology (e.g. cell cultivation, microbiological methods, mutagenesis methods, and protein methods), real-time PCR, RNA sequencing and protein binding analysis by microscale thermophoresis.

Martin Bezdícka is also an author and co-author of various publications in scientific impact factor journals. He actively participates in scientific conferences and he continues to broaden his scientific abilities by his current Ph.D. study.
