Francisco de la Cerda is the head of the Pediatric Nephrology Unit at Virgen del Rocio Children's Hospital in Seville, Spain. He began working in this Unit in 2007 as a Pediatric Nephrologist, with a particular focus on both deceased and living donor renal transplantation, hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, chronic kidney disease (CKD), glomerulopathies, and hypertension.
In 2014, he presented his doctoral thesis titled Expression and Distribution of Substance P and NK1 Receptor in Renal Tissue: An Immunohistochemical Study. He holds a Master's degree in Hemodialysis (2013-14), Therapeutic Apheresis (2016-17), and Renal Pathology (2017-18).
Francisco de la Cerda has conducted several clinical trials in the fields of dialysis, glomerulopathies, pediatric transplantation, and tubulopathies. He is a member of several Spanish and international medical associations, including the Spanish Pediatric Nephrology Association (AENP), the European Society for Pediatric Nephrology (ESPN), the International Pediatric Nephrology Association (IPNA), and two European Reference Networks (ERKNet and Transplant Child).
In 2021, he completed the ESPN Board Exam. Between 2021 and 2023, he successfully completed the Postgraduate Curriculum in Rare Kidney Diseases, organized by the European Rare Kidney Disease Reference Network (ERKNet). Since 2023, he has been a board member of the Hereditary Renal Diseases Working Group (GTERH) of the Spanish Society of Nephrology (SEN). He has published over 60 scientific articles and book chapters.
