Elena Emanuela Rusu

Elena-Emanuela Rusu MD, PhD is Assistant Professor of Nephrology, "Carol Davila" University of Medicine and Pharmacy Bucharest and consultant in nephrology, Fundeni Clinical Institute, Bucharest. She received her M.D. in 1998 at "Carol Davila" University Medical School.

Dr. Elena-Emanuela Rusu has a broad experience in nephrological pathologies and is focused on rare diseases of reno-urinary system. She is recognized as a regional expert in rare kidney diseases including metabolic nephropathies (such as Fabry disease, primary hyperoxaluria type I), and hereditary kidney stone disease. Her research interest include the genetic basis of hereditary kidney diseases, the prevention of progression of chronic kidney diseases, the cardiovascular and metabolic consequences of kidney diseases and the management of chronic kidney disease, renal replacement therapies and extracorporeal blood purification therapies. She was also project manager or coordinator in national research projects, investigator in 27 international studies. Her academic carrier is supported by more than 300 published papers and book chapters, and lectures on topics related to rare diseases of reno-urinary system, chronic kidney disease (CKD) and dialysis. She is the current president and founding member of the Romanian Association for the Study of Hereditary Kidney Diseases. She is member in the Romanian Society of Nephrology, the European Renal Association, the Romanian Society of Cardiology and the Romanian Society of Ultrasonography in Medicine and Biology.
