Elena Guillen Olmos

Elena Guillén-Olmos is a member of the Nephro-Urological and Kidney Transplant Department at Hospital Clínic of Barcelona (XUEC and CSUR accreditations). Dr. Guillén has contributed as an investigator to a Spanish multicenter project on complement involvement in pre-eclampsia and HELLP syndrome (P-TMA study; 163/U/2020), funded by “La Marató de TV3” (€193.593), with results published in a notable paper on extracellular vesicles and neutrophil extracellular traps in preeclampsia [PMID: 39735539]. She has also participated in the project "Evaluación del sistema del complemento y el daño endotelial en el trasplante renal de grupo sanguíneo incompatible (ABOi)", funded by "Instituto de Salud Carlos III" (€56.879) and also has co-authored several reviews on complement's role in various clinical conditions.


Since 2021, Dr. Guillén has co-led, along with the IP Dr. Miquel Blasco, a multicenter study on complement dysregulation in ANCA-associated vasculitis, funded by the National Society of Nephrology under the “Ayudas Fundación SENEFRO a la investigación en Nefrología 2020” award. This work has led to multiple publications at national and international congresses. Additionally, she participated in the creation of the ANCA-vasculitis Consensus Document for the Catalan Group for the Study of Glomerular Diseases (GLOMCAT) [PMID 39597938] and in the compassionate use program of Avacopan, the first complement-inhibitor approved for this condition [PMID 35257076]
