Eric Goffin (born August 26, 1960, Belgium) is Professor of Medicine and currently Head of the Nephrology Department at Cliniques Universitaires St. Luc, Brussels (since March 2023).
He studied Medicine at the Catholic University of Louvain (UCL) and specialized in Internal Medicine, Intensive Care, Cardiology, Pneumology, and Nephrology, completing further training in renal transplantation at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge (UK).
Throughout his career, he has held numerous clinical and academic positions, including Assistant Specialist, Resident, and later Chief of Clinic in Nephrology, before being appointed Clinical Professor (2009), Ordinary Clinical Professor (2015), and finally Head of Service (2023).
His responsibilities include leadership of extrahospital dialysis programs (self-care, peritoneal dialysis, and home hemodialysis), selection and follow-up of renal and pancreas transplant candidates, and medical programs for living donors, including ABO-incompatible and donor exchange transplants. Academically, he is actively involved in the supervision and training of nephrology residents, clinical staff, and students.
Professor Goffin has received numerous awards and research grants, including from the Baxter Clinical Evidence Council, the Société Francophone de Dialyse, and the Belgian Society of Internal Medicine. He was named Distinguished Fellow of the European Renal Association and Fellow of the European Board of Transplantation.
He has supervised multiple doctoral and DES theses on peritoneal dialysis, transplantation, and glomerulonephritis, and contributes regularly to international teaching, including the DIU of Peritoneal Dialysis (Universities of Paris V, Caen, and Reims), the Core Curriculum of the Belgian Society of Nephrology, and training programs across Europe.
His research and clinical expertise focus on peritoneal dialysis, renal transplantation, and patient quality of life, making him a leading figure in European nephrology.
