Tilman Jobst-Schwan

Dr. med. Tilman Jobst-Schwan is a Renal Fellow and Clinician Scientist at the Department of Nephrology and Hypertension, Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany. He studied Medicine at the same university (2006–2012) and received his doctoral degree in 2014 under the supervision of Prof. Michael S. Wiesener with the distinction summa cum laude.

He began his residency in Nephrology at the University Hospital Erlangen in 2013 and later continued his training as a Renal Fellow and Clinician Scientist from 2018 onward. Between 2015 and 2018, he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the laboratory of Prof. Friedhelm Hildebrandt at Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, where he focused on genetic mechanisms of kidney disease.

His scientific career includes leading the junior project “Gene discovery in kidney disease” (2018–2021, funded by the Interdisciplinary Center for Clinical Research Erlangen), participation in the IZKF Advanced Clinician Scientist Program (2020–2023), and since 2023, the NOTICE Clinician Scientist Program. He has served as Principal Investigator in the Department of Nephrology and Hypertension since 2021 and is currently enrolled in the ERKNet Postgraduate Curriculum in Rare Kidney Diseases.

His main research interests center on gene discovery in kidney diseases, molecular mechanisms of renal pathology, and translational nephrology.
