Description |
The Pediatric Nephrology Unit is part of the Virgen del Rocio University Hospital (HUVR), located in Seville. Our hospital is a tertiary referral public center serving Andalucía, a region with over 8.5 million inhabitants. The Unit is situated within the Children's Hospital, which is integrated into HUVR, alongside General, Trauma-Orthopedics, and Women's Teaching Hospitals. In our Unit, we provide advanced, specialized care for pediatric patients with kidney diseases, ranging from prenatal age to 18 years old. We are highly specialized in renal replacement therapies, including hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and both living and deceased donor kidney transplantation. We offer continuous patient care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with pediatric nephrologists and dialysis nurses on-call. Since 1979, we have successfully performed over 430 pediatric kidney transplants, including those in infants. Our center is accredited as a national reference and expert center for severe chronic kidney disease, dialysis in infants and small children, pediatric kidney transplantation, and paired kidney donation. Our multidisciplinary team includes specialized renal nurses, clinical research nurses and staff, dietitians, psychologists, and social support professionals, among others. We collaborate closely with the Pediatric Urology Unit, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Immunology Service, Pathology Service, Radiology Service, and many other pediatric subspecialties, ensuring the comprehensive care needed for most chronic pediatric patients treated in our Unit. We are actively involved in numerous clinical trials and academic research projects related to glomerular diseases, tubulopathies, end-stage renal disease (ESRD), pediatric dialysis, kidney diseases, and kidney transplantation. Our research primarily focuses on pediatric transplantation and rare kidney diseases. |
