Description |
The Paediatric Nephrology Department at the Medical University of Vienna is the largest paediatric nephrology centre in Austria. Every year, 130 new patients are referred to the department during approximately 3,000 outpatient visits. The focus of care covers all rare nephrological and nephro-urological diseases in children. The technical equipment, with space for six extracorporeal treatments, enables all renal replacement procedures to be offered from newborns to young adults, as well as other extracorporeal procedures such as lipid apheresis, immunoadsorption and plasma exchange. A multi-professional team consisting of doctors, nurses, psychologists, dieticians and social workers provides comprehensive care. In addition to participating in international registries and drug studies, an important scientific focus of research is the search for better biocompatible dialysates for peritoneal dialysis. |
